A New Year & A New Direction

Recently, Indigo Creations decided to stop everything and reconfigure every aspect of the company. We ladies here at Indigo Creations realized we weren’t quite going about things like we wanted and had to sit down and figure it out before we even attempted to proceed with more blog posts, marketing, or anything else. We all love what we do here but something was missing. Nina, one of Indigo Creations’ graphic artists, told me months ago to read a book called “Start Something That Matters” by Blake Mycoskie. Now, I’m just going to say this – if you haven’t read it, you should and soon. This book made me realize what was missing. Every Lady here is passionate about helping people and the world. But we were attempting to do it just on a personal level when we could. However, after reading just a few pages into the Blake’s book, I realized what was missing from Indigo Creations. Giving. All of us here are givers. We’re the type of girl who will give all and then some when someone or some animal is truly in need. And this made me realize that we didn’t have to give just on a personal level.  We should and could give on a professional level, too. So I pow-wowed with girls and ran some ideas by them. Everyone *loved* the concepts I presented and were eager to help with converting Indigo Creations from a for-profit business to a for-profit business with a heart and soul. Since this pow-wow so many things have fallen into place. When this happens, I know I’m on the right track with life. So that’s where we are now… finishing up all loose ends on all the new changes coming to Indigo Creations.  Here are some things you can look forward to: More info about our giving back project Going Green Giveaways eBooks And there is always something else in the works.  Make sure to subscribe to our newsletter, follow us on Facebook or Twitter, or even grab our RSS feed. Whatever your preference, make sure you do it. With these changes and the greatness in the works, you don’t want to miss a second. I promise....

Podio: Almost Better Than Chocolate

I’m not sure if you’re like me, but I’ve been through software option after software option for keeping track of everything for Indigo Creations. Having team members makes that much more complicated in finding something that allows them access, also.  But I’ve found finally my solution – Podio.  It’s a funny name for a company, but you won’t forget it once you use it. Podio is almost better than chocolate in many ways. I wasn’t kidding when I made that the headline of this post.   What is Podio and Why is It Almost Better Than Chocolate? So you might be asking yourself what is Podio and how could it possibly be better than chocolate. Where to start! Podio is an online platform that allows you to manage various workflows all in one location. It’s like having a virtual office for you and any team members you might have as well as the ability to invite Clients to projects so that everyone can collaborate in one space. Say good-bye to back and forth emails to make sure everyone is on the same page, files can be saved into projects so that everyone has the proper edition of the files, and so much more!   How Does Podio Function? Podio allows users to create workspaces where you can then use various Podio and Podio-User Apps to help organize and maintain your projects and tasks. There are calenders, to-do lists, ways to create all sorts of wonderful aspects of your virtual office. Honestly, the only limits you have are the ones you create. The apps that are available are just crazy brilliant! You have the option to create your own app if you don’t find what you need with something already in existence. I don’t think that’ll be the case for many though. The organizational possibilities are magnificent, also. Within my Podio account, I have about 10 workspaces created. Each of these workspaces is dedicated to a specific aspect of what Indigo Creations does. There is also a workspace I call “The Supply Closet” that houses links and resources I treasure and want to share with those listed as Employees within Podio. The software is structured that when you do the initial setup and give it your work email address, in my case I gave it one of the @iccopywriting.com addresses I have, every person I list as an employee must...

10 Ways to Have a Healthy You & Business

I will be the first to admit that my health has gone down hill since I started working from home as a freelancer and then moving into building Indigo Creations. I sit all day. My shoulders, neck, and back hate me now. I used to see a personal trainer twice a week and walk everywhere in the city.  Now, I walk around the city 1-2 times  a week if I’m lucky.  Building a company is not easy. But we must maintain our health. Without our own health, our business fails, too.  Then we have to ask what the point of it all was. Whether you’re a solo gig or running a small business, we get sidetracked and wrapped up in work. It happens. Don’t beat yourself up over it. But don’t let it ruin your life either. Find the balance.  Here are 10 ways to get your health back on track and to help your business grow because of it. 1.  Don’t be afraid to ask for help. You don’t have to attempt everything on your own. There are many opportunities where you can spread the work between others to keep yourself from spreading yourself thin. 2.  Eat better.  We should all be eating the best we can.  But it’s even more important when we take on the these business roles to eat healthy. A proper diet can help so many aspects of your life that could be stressing you out that affect your business. Eating better also gives you the proper nutrients to fuel your mind to be as productive as possible. 3.  Walk/Stretch every hour.  Might seem crazy, but I speak from experience getting up and stretching my legs and arms have saved me. When I don’t do it regularly, my body revolts against me making the most basic of tasks a bit complicated. Just set an alarm for every 60 minutes. Get up and do basic stretches or walk around your house/building. 4.  Physical activity once a week. Make sure, at least on your weekends, you’re getting out and being as active as possible. Go running, hiking, or whatever. Just do it. Don’t sit. This has become my new routine. I live in Belgrade, Serbia which is a beautiful city to live in. I like to walk around the city for hours at a time on the weekend exploring my usual spots and finding new ones....
